Warranty terms

Last updated:

Based on JB Warranty Care & Service Handbook, Edition 12, March 2025 · Applies to all new JB Caravans purchased in Australia

JB Caravans Pty Ltd warrants every new caravan against defects in materials and workmanship under the terms set out below. This warranty is provided in addition to — and does not limit — your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Where your ACL rights are stronger, they prevail.

Your ACL rights are separate and cannot be removed. This factory warranty exists alongside your automatic consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in this document limits those rights. See our Consumer Rights page for full details.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

1. What's covered and for how long

5

Year structural warranty

Chassis frame, wall and roof frame, and furniture carcass. Original purchaser only.

3

Year manufacturer's warranty

Manufacture and assembly defects — general plumbing, electrical wiring, furniture, exterior cladding, and chassis.

+2

Year sealant extension

At 36 months, a sealant service at an authorised JB Service Centre extends sealant cover for a further 24 months.

5-year structural warranty — covered items only

The 5-year structural warranty covers faults in the construction of the caravan. Covered items are strictly limited to:

  • Chassis frame

  • Wall and roof frame

  • Furniture carcass

This warranty does not cover faults with individual components — including upholstery, handles, locks, hinges, struts, glass, windows, doors, ply, flooring, or other fixtures and fittings.

3-year manufacturer's warranty — covered items

For 3 years from the handover date, defects in workmanship or materials relating to manufacture and assembly will be repaired or replaced at no charge to the original purchaser. Covered items:

  • General plumbing

  • General electrical wiring

  • Furniture

  • Exterior cladding

  • Chassis

This warranty does not cover appliances, BBQs, awnings, or accessories not manufactured by JB Caravans — see Section 4 for component-specific warranties provided by individual manufacturers.

2. Who this warranty applies to

This warranty is provided to the original purchaser only. It is not automatically transferable. A warranty transfer requires:

  • Inspection and assessment by an authorised JB dealer only

  • The caravan must pass inspection — JB Caravans reserves the right to decline transfer if it does not

  • First inspection of the van to detail pre-existing conditions and repairs required

  • A confirmation email will be issued with a Registration Certificate detailing the date of purchase and claims process

  • Transfer pricing is confirmed by contacting your local JB dealership

In the event of a successful transfer, the new owner will be entitled to the remaining warranty period only.

This warranty is void if the caravan has been leased, hired, loaned, or used for commercial purposes.

7-day handover quality window

Any quality issues identified at handover must be reported to your dealer within 7 days. Please thoroughly check your caravan at handover, sign the Handover Checklist to confirm all areas of the van are approved, noting any areas of exception. Quality issues reported after 7 days from handover may not be covered under this warranty. This 7-day window applies to JB Caravans' factory warranty only and does not limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which apply regardless of when a fault becomes apparent.

Registration certificate — 14-day requirement

To avoid delays to any future warranty claims, the details on your Warranty Registration Certificate must be completed and returned to JB Caravans within 14 days of purchase. For all new JB Caravan purchases, your sales representative will enter your details electronically at handover and provide paperwork confirming your purchase date and the claims procedure.

3. Service requirements — maintaining your warranty

To maintain this warranty at all times, you must adhere to the following service schedule. All services must be carried out at your selling dealer or an authorised JB service agent. To book a service or find an authorised agent, call 1800 991 169.

Failure to comply with the Maintenance Service Schedule will void this warranty.

Service

Interval (whichever comes first)

Key notes

First service

1,000 km or 3 months from handover

Full safety and alignment check, bearings, brakes, sealant inspection

Second service

10,000 km or 12 months (regardless if stored)

Full service schedule — gas pressure test, electrical check

Third service

20,000 km or 24 months

Full service schedule + sealant review

Fourth service

30,000 km or 36 months

Full inspection and reseal required to activate 2-year sealant extension

Fifth service

40,000 km or 48 months

Full service schedule

Service intervals must not exceed 12 months, commencing from date of purchase or delivery, regardless of distance travelled or storage. The cost of servicing, including consumables, is the responsibility of the purchaser and must be paid direct to the service agent.

What each service includes

  • Check and adjust alignment of all doors and windows

  • Check and adjust step alignment

  • Visual inspection for water leaks; inspect and replace sealant/silicone where required

  • Clean, check, and repack wheel bearings

  • Check condition of brake assemblies; adjust brake shoes and park brake

  • Check wheel alignment and tension wheel nuts

  • Check tyre pressure, wear, and alignment

  • Check and tighten all suspension and pivot points

  • Undercarriage visual inspection and report any defects

  • Ensure electrical wiring is secure and correctly routed

  • Lubricate stabilisers, coupling, locks, and hinges; clean vents

  • Check and adjust cupboard locks and catches

  • Greasing and tightening components

Note: Tightening and adjusting of doors, suspension, and wheel nuts are included in your first and yearly services — they are not covered as intermittent fixes on demand between scheduled services.

All non-JB service centres must perform yearly services as set out in JB Caravans service standards requirements.

Ongoing owner maintenance obligations

In addition to scheduled services, as owner you are responsible for regular maintenance to prevent defects arising outside JB Caravans' control. This includes:

  • Checking and maintaining adequate tyre pressure at all times

  • Greasing and tightening components as required

  • Cleaning filters in air conditioners and water pumps

  • Maintaining, painting, and rust-proofing painted and exposed surfaces

  • Checking fluid levels — LP gas, grey water, black water tanks, and battery acid

  • Checking fire extinguisher charge at least annually; smoke alarm and carbon monoxide batteries every 3 months, replaced at least annually

  • Washing the van regularly with pH-neutral car detergent and clean (not recycled) water; rinsing thoroughly and drying with a microfibre cloth

  • Keeping the van under shelter or covered with a caravan cover during extended storage

  • Lubricating hardware with silicone spray — do not use grease

Caravan care — cleaning warnings that affect warranty

Use of truck wash is not permitted under any circumstances. Chemicals and solvents will cause failure to surface shield protection, including powder coat, plastic components, aluminium cladding, windows, hatches, and sealant adhesives — and will not be covered under warranty.

UV and weather protection: Due to Australia's extreme UV and weather conditions, fading and chalking of material will occur over time if a professionally-applied protective coating is not used. This damage will not be covered under warranty. Ask your authorised JB dealer about suitable coating options.

Beware of pressure washers — they can direct spray under trim and damage bodywork, stickers, and seals. Do not use high-pressure washers directly on sealants or ventilation.

4. Component and appliance warranties

Components and appliances not manufactured by JB Caravans are covered by the individual manufacturer's warranty — they are excluded from JB Caravans' warranty. Removal and re-installation costs for appliance warranty repairs are the responsibility of the purchaser. Contact the relevant manufacturer or supplier directly for claims on these items.

The following table lists all components and their warranty periods. Warranty periods within product ranges may vary — confirm with your dealer or sales team.

5. Off-road policy

JB Caravans off-road caravans are designed to withstand Australia's tough conditions. Different models are rated for different usage levels:

  • Limited semi-off-road usage — Dirt Roader, Dirt Road Extreme

  • Extended off-road usage — Scorpion Sting, Sting Air, Gator, Gator X

JB Caravans off-road caravans are built in accordance with Australian Design Rule Standards, including in respect of gas and electrical venting. Gas and electrical venting requirements and construction constraints limit the effectiveness of off-road caravans against dust and water penetration. Under no circumstances should any JB Caravans off-road caravan be exposed to water at or above body floor level. As owner, it is your responsibility to ensure adequate air ventilation is maintained at all times.

When travelling off-road, extra care and attention is required. JB Caravans strongly recommends travelling at a safe speed according to road and weather conditions.

Recommended tyre pressures

  • Corrugated / rough roads: 20–25 PSI

  • Sand: 15–20 PSI

Additional exclusions for off-road caravans

  • Impact or stone damage to body, chassis, or running gear

  • Soiling or damage to fabric items and internal fittings from dirt, dust, or airborne substances

  • Water damage due to creek crossings

  • Damage caused by use on tracks rated above the model's off-road specification

  • Damage from dislodgement of appliances or fittings due to hard impact or heavy landings on severely rutted roads

  • Damage caused by using high-pressure washers directly on sealants or ventilation

  • Damage caused by solvents or chemicals used to wash the caravan or RV

6. What is not covered — full exclusions

This warranty does not apply where the caravan has been:

  • Repaired, altered, or modified by someone other than JB Caravans or an authorised repair agent

  • Used for a purpose other than that for which it was designed

  • Subject to misuse, neglect, or overloading

  • Involved in an accident or any cause beyond the control of JB Caravans

  • Used for commercial or hire purposes

  • Towed by a vehicle other than a standard passenger vehicle or standard 4WD

  • Towed with an incorrect weight distribution or incorrect towing equipment

  • Subject to premature wear and tear when used for permanent living purposes

The warranty also does not apply to:

  • Damage or defects arising from accident, theft, or exposure to abnormal environmental conditions — including stone strike, condensation from periods of storage, windstorm, lightning, hail, temperature, humidity, pressure, stress, or similar

  • Damage from ingress of water caused by submersion, infestation (animals, rodents, insects), rust, or corrosion

  • Damage arising from use of unauthorised parts or accessories

  • Damage from failure to properly use, service, or maintain the caravan in accordance with this handbook

  • Damage from failure to follow the pre-travel checklist

  • Damage from failure to follow the caravan care procedures in this handbook

  • Defects from excessive speed, hard impact, or use in unsuitable off-road conditions

  • Any consequential damage from continued use or towing after a defect has, or should have, become apparent to the purchaser

  • Any rectification, modification, or other work required due to changes in local, state, or federal legislation occurring after manufacture

  • Tears, punctures, shrinkage, softening, or fading of fabric items — canvas, canopies, windows, screenings, cushions, mattresses, upholstery, curtains, or plywood finishes caused by condensation

  • Deterioration of sealants over time; silicon is covered for 1 year from handover only

  • Damage to surfaces and seals caused by after-treatments (coatings, protectants, sealants)

  • Normal wear and tear, deterioration from UV exposure, or damage from natural causes

  • Fading or chalking caused by Australian UV conditions where a protective coating has not been applied

  • Accidental damage

Purchaser's cost obligations

The purchaser is responsible for bearing the cost of the following, even where a warranty claim is authorised:

  • All transport costs to and from JB Caravans or the authorised dealership

  • All insurance of the caravan during transit

  • Fees for maintenance service and consumables

  • Removal and refitting of appliances required to enable warranty repairs

  • Any towing fees or repairer travelling time required to perform warranty repairs

JB Caravans and the selling dealer will not be liable for disrupted travel plans, accommodation costs, or other associated costs incurred while repairs are being carried out. It is the purchaser's responsibility to deliver the caravan to an authorised repairer.

7. How to make a warranty claim

Notify JB Caravans immediately when a fault becomes apparent. Any ongoing or continued damage that occurs after a fault should have been apparent is not covered.

  • Contact JB Caravans via jbcaravans.com.au or call 1800 991 169 — do not engage a repairer before receiving authorisation

  • Provide: proof of purchase, full details of the alleged defect, and supporting documentation including service records and photographs

  • Make the caravan available for inspection at the nominated repair agent or dealership yard

  • If inspection reveals no defect, the purchaser must pay JB Caravans' or the dealer's usual inspection and testing costs

  • If the claim is approved, the Claims Department will authorise repair and issue an authorisation number to the approved repairer

  • Any claim for repairs carried out without prior written authorisation will be denied. JB Caravans will not reimburse costs of repairs performed by non-authorised companies without prior written consent and approval.

The selling dealer may, at its absolute discretion, advise the Claims Department to consider your request to repair or replace covered parts. Any claim must be made during the warranty term.

8. Liability and replacement parts

The repair or replacement of the caravan or defective part is the absolute limit of JB Caravans' liability under this warranty. JB Caravans makes no express warranties or representations other than those set out in this document.

Replacement parts are not required to be identical to the original. Replacements may be of similar type and will be determined by the manufacturer, repairer, and availability.

Dispute resolution

Should a dispute arise concerning the warranty or a claim, you may refer the matter to our internal Disputes Panel for determination. You will receive a written response within 15 working days of receiving your correspondence.

If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may contact Consumer Affairs Victoria (1300 558 181) or the ACCC (1300 302 502). See our Complaints Process for full escalation options.
